Two from Two for Rubick's Outback Miss

Mark Smith - Saturday June 24

Following a three-length romp at Bendigo on debut, the Rubick filly Outback Miss took the step up to city class in her stride with a dominant performance in the McCafe Hcp (1000m) at Caulfield.

Ridden by Blake Shinn for Mick Price and Michael Kent (Jnr), Outback Miss camped on the speed set by the Spirit Of Boom filly Malaboom.

Moving smoothly to the lead Outback Miss had little trouble holding the challenge of the Written By gelding Scorsese by two lengths with a further head back to Malaboom in third.

Mick Price said the daughter of Rubick may have to battle some health issues.

"Her biggest problem is she's got a little growth on her throat that we have been monitoring," Price revealed.

"We'll just have to scope her, and I would like to treat it more intensively now we have got this out of the way.

"She is smart enough to consider to be thinking to go to black-type eventually.

"She is a nice, strong, sound Rubick filly, but I will need a couple of weeks to treat her intensively and see if we can get the throat perfect."

Sporting the Osher Group silks, Outback Miss was a $150,000 purchase for Mick Price Racing & Breeding/The Osher Group Pty Ltd from the Glenlogan Park draft at the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Outback Miss is the only winner from three to race for the talented racemare Outback Saga, an 8-time winning daughter of Real Saga.

Boom Torque (Spirit Of Boom), a 3yo half-brother to Outback Miss, was second in a Doomben maiden at his second start on June 21.

A half-sister to 4-time stakes winner and near $900,000 earner Snippets Land (Snippetson) and stakes-placed winner Canny Franco (Canny Lad), Outback Saga has a Microphone colt that was a $120,000 purchase for Campton Racing at the Gold Coast in January.

After slipping in 2021, Outback Saga was covered by Russian Revolution last spring.

Outback Miss is one of four 2yo winners for Swettenham Stud's Rubick, who stands for $27,500 in 2023.
