The inform Medaglia d’Oro (USA) gelding Kallos spoiled the party for the Chairman’s Sale bound Mileva in Saturday’s Group III RN Irwin Stakes (1100m) at Morphettville.
Ridden by Ben Melham for James Cummings, Kallos unleashed a powerful sprint to defeat Mileva (Headwater) by one and a quarter lengths with Another Reward (Shamus Award) three-quarters of a length back in third.
Kallos is in the form of his life. He has reeled off three consecutive wins and arrived in Adelaide off a win in the Listed VRC Bob Hoysted Stakes at Flemington.
The Group II Danehill Stakes winner at Flemington at three, Kallos advances his record to six wins, two seconds, and a third from 16 starts with earnings of $601,440.
“Outstanding ride by Ben from an awkward barrier,” stable representative Sean Keogh said.
“It worked out beautifully. Despite being a Group II Danehill Stakes winner, the team decided to geld him, and it’s paying off.
“That’s three on the bounce as a gelding. He is looking like he is back to his spring 3yo form, so he may have a run before the Goodwood.”
Kallos is the first foal of the Group II ATC Magic Night Stakes and Listed ATC Gimcrack Stakes winner Calliope.
The daughter of Exceed and Excel made just four career starts. She is a sister to Group III Canonbury Stakes winner Zethus.
Calliope's dam Melpomene (Elusive Quality) is a half-sister to Group III Tatt's NSW Furious Stakes winner Bound For Earth (Northern Meteor), out of the Group 1 Victoria Oaks heroine Bulla Borghese.
Kallos's stakes-placed three-quarter sister Thalia (Medaglia d'Oro) is the dam of the Group III EGroup Security Star Kingdom Stakes winner Bacchanalia.
After foaling a Street Boss (USA) filly, Calliope visited Pinatubo (IRE) last spring.
