Bargain Priced I Am Invincible Colt Wins Redoute’s Choice Stakes

Tara Madgwick - Saturday April 8

I Am Invincible had 44 yearlings sell at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale last year at an average $541,591 and the cheapest of them was a colt that sold for just $65,000 and he won his first stakes race on Saturday.

Trained by Lloyd Kennewell, talented colt I Am Unstoppable won his debut easily at Morphettville last month and made a smooth transition into stakes company taking out the Listed MRC Redoute’s Choice Stakes (1200m) at Sandown by the best part of a length.

He powered to the line for Zac Spain to score a soft victory as favourite and will be looking towards better races in the spring after two wins in as many starts.

"He's probably the best colt I've trained, and he'll go to the paddock on that note and remain an unbeaten two-year-old Stakes-winning son of Vinnie, which are hard to come by," said Kennewell.

"He's got a huge pedigree. He gets me up in the morning and to be honest I don't get too toey at the races, but today I was a little bit up and about again.

"He gets me feeling like that, this horse."

Kennewell has high hopes for the colt with the Group I VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes a possible spring target.

"He hasn't missed an oat, he's got a great constitution for a colt and he'll go out and it's pretty straight-forward for him now," Kennewell said.

"He comes back and kicks off as a three-year-old colt in those good stakes races and we'll try and go to the Coolmore."

You don't see many yearlings by I Am Invincible sell for $65,000!

A $65,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Newgate Farm draft for Kennewell Racing/Group 1 Bloodstock, I Am Unstoppable has already banked over $135,000 and was bred by Mrs Belinda Bateman and foaled and raised at Newgate.

Kennewell revealed x-ray issues were the reason he was able to purchase the well-bred colt so cheaply.

"I've bought a few horses with x-rays issues and a lot of them are faultless,” Kennewell said.

"I buy horses that are clean on x-ray, and they can have issue. It shows that there are no rules to it."

I Am Unstoppable is the first foal of Listed ATC Gimcrack Stakes winner Satin Slipper, a blue-blood Pierro mare from Group II winner Satin Shoes, whose dam is Group I winner Star Satire.

Newgate Farm sold a Written Tycoon filly from Satin Slipper at Inglis Classic this year for just $100,000 to Kurrinda Bloodstock / Singleton Racing and she has a filly to follow by King’s Legacy and is back in foal to him again.

I Am Unstoppable is the 92nd stakes-winner for champions ire I Am Invincible and is the third for Pierro as a broodmare sire.
