Russian Revolution 2YO Quinella

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday March 22

A competitive juvenile colts and geldings race over 1100m at Randwick on Wednesday produced a quinella for Russian Revolution with first starters Libertad and The King fighting out the finish.

Both colts had been showing potential at the trials and the Annabel Neasham trained Libertad was expected to run well on debut two weeks ago, but was scratched at the gates when he got a leg over and was sent back to the trials.

It was take two for Libertad and this time all went smoothly and Chad Schofield was able to settle the colt back in the field before powering to the line to win by two lengths with The King charging home from near last to grab second.

Both colts run for ownership groups involving Trilogy Racing in whose colours they run.

“He’s got a beautiful turn of foot and is a beautiful colt, we’ve always had a nice opinion of him and it’s a great bunch of owners and I think they have quite a nice colt on their hands,” said Annabel Neasham.

“The original plan was to go to the Kindergarten Stakes if he had won the other day, but now that race will come up a bit quickly, so we’ll just see how he pulls up, but we could probably point him anywhere.”

Libertad was a $210,000 Inglis Ready 2 Race purchase for Annabel Neasham Racing Pty Ltd from the Nolen Racing draft and was a successful pinhook having been sourced from Inglis Classic for $40,000 from the Rheinwood Pastoral draft.

Libertad was a successful pinhook - $40,000 yearling to $210,000 Inglis Ready 2Race.

Libertad is the third winner from Electric Charge, a winning half-sister by Charge Forward to Group III winner Miss Darcey from stakes-winner Miss Bussell.

Libertad is the ninth two year-old winner this season for Russian Revolution and the colt he defeated The King looks like he’ll be adding to that tally sooner rather than later.
