Trapeze Artist 2YO Wins $125,000 QTIS Jewel Prelude

Widden Stud’s young gun sire Trapeze Artist enjoyed strong results on Saturday with a debut victory in the $125,000 QTIS Jewel Prelude at Eagle Farm for talented gelding Spin Doctor and the closest of seconds in the Group II ATC Reisling Stakes for flying filly Facile.

Trained by Steven O’Dea and Matthew Hoysted, Spin Doctor was sent out favourite for the 1000m dash and hit the line hard for Brodie Loy with a well timed run to win by half a length.

 

“He’s not the finished product yet. When he hit the front, he pricked his ears and had a good look around so it’s great to know there is more improvement there,” Loy said after the win.

“He’s got a lovely attitude and I can’t wait to see what he can do in races to come.”

With $72,500 in prizemoney, Spin Doctor is assured of a start in the $500,000 QTIS Jewel (1200m) at Doomben in two weeks’ time.

A $240,000 Inglis Classic purchase from the draft of Kenmore Lodge for Proven Thoroughbreds / O'Dea Hoysted Racing, Spin Doctor was bred by Kellie Bond and is the second winner from Chit Chat, a winning Anabaa (USA) mare from Group I Auckland Cup winner Upsetthym.

Spin Doctor is the fourth winner for Trapeze Artist, whose talented daughter Facile produced another sensational effort in the Group II ATC Reisling Stakes.

The Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou trained filly has three seconds from four starts all of them in stakes company and was gallant in defeat when missing by a short half head behind Learning to Fly in the Reisling.

Trapeze Artist has eight entries for Inglis Premier to sell over the next few days.
