A new juvenile winner at Eagle Farm on Wednesday for Spirit of Boom has him on nine two year-old winners for the season and a well bred filly we spotted at the trials earlier this week could easily add to his tally.
Eureka Stud upped the ante on Spirit of Boom when his progeny enjoyed racetrack success and his fee was upped from $11,000 to $55,000 in 2018 and $44,000 the following year meaning he has a two great crops running at present of two and three year-olds.
One of the mares that went to him in 2019 was four time Group I winner Streama, who was one of the standout mares of her time earning over $2.6million.
The daughter of Stratum had highlight wins in the Group I ATC Flight Stakes, Australian Oaks, George Main Stakes and Doomben Cup before retiring to stud for Brook Pastoral, which involves members of the family of her original owner breeder Geoffrey Coghlan.
Streama has had four foals to race for two winners and two place-getters, but is yet to produce a horse of her talent, but her Spirit of Boom two year-old filly may be the one to change that.
Retained to race by a partnership and sent to Brad Widdup, Clea had her first trial at Hawkesbury on Tuesday morning and posted a win for Brett Prebble.
She mustered pace easily to work though and take the lead and was well held together all the way down the running to score a narrow win and has been entered for the Group I ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes and Group II ATC Percy Sykes Stakes.
We’ll be watching closely to see where Clea appears next!
Streama has a yearling filly by Lonhro and produced a striking colt by Yes Yes Yes last spring.
