Third Successive Win for Benedetta

Tara Madgwick - Sunday February 5

Hellbent filly Benedetta is building a tidy record posting her third win from four starts when scoring at Sandown on Saturday.

An unlucky third on debut at Moe on December 9, the Jason Warren trained Benedetta has since won at Cranbourne and Sandown before stepping up to a Benchmark 78 event over 1300m to win a again.

Daniel Stackhouse was on board again for this assignment with Benedetta kicking well clear and then holding off a strong challenged from Discerning to win by  a length taking her earnings in excess of $176,000.

Jason Warren was well pleased with the win, but won’t be tempted to back up next week into a stakes race with the talented filly.

“You just have to keep raising the bar with these kinds of fillies, we said before the race that she looked progressive and she’s kept going the right way,” Warren said.

“We’ll let the dust settle from today and we won’t be backing her up as she’s a slight filly that does not carry a lot of excess, so we’ll give her a good chance to get over the run and I’ll have a chat with Eales Racing and we can all work together to plan her next target.”

Benedetta runs in the famous colours of Laurence Eales that were carried by Melbourne Cup winner Shocking and was a $75,000 Inglis Premier purchase for Eales Racing Syndications from the Mill Park draft.

A half-sister to Group II placed Whatfox, she was bred by Brenton and Liz Parker and is the  second winner from Group II placed Domesday mare Whatalovelyday, who comes from the family of Group I winners Leica Guv, Light Fantastic and Pharoah.

Mill Park sold a Rubick colt from Whatalovelyday at Magic Millions this year for $130,000 to Henry Dwyer Racing.

Hellbent has a big draft for Inglis Classic including six that will be offered by Yarraman Park.
