The record for the highest priced yearling sold at Magic Millions that was set on Wednesday did not last long with the I Am Invincible colt from Anaheed making $2.7million on Thursday for Segenhoe Stud.
Bred by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum as was his mother Anaheed, the glamour colt was purchased by Tom Magnier and is now the highest priced yearling by reigning champion I Am Invincible.
“A lovely colt. We’re delighted to get him. Fairness to Segenhoe. They’ve done a great job with their colts,” said Tom Magnier.
“Peter O’Brien always reminds me of the one we didn’t get so we made sure we didn’t leave this colt behind today.
“Again, we’ve got a great colts syndicate. I’d be a brave man to call him the best horse in the sale. For us, trying to find the next Home Affairs and I Am Invincible, he looked a lot like Home Affairs walking around the ring there so it is really exciting to get him and we’ll take him home and work out what we’re doing.
“When you have a colt like Home Affairs who has been a great servant at his first season at stud, you’re trying to find the next one.”
Coolmore have a great relationship with Segenhoe tracing back for many years.
“Peter O’Brien worked for us for a long time and he does a great job as do all the team at Segenhoe,” Tom Magnier continued..
“Tim Stakemire and Sheikh Khalifa, they’re great supporters of Coolmore so I’m delighted for them as well.
“Listen, it’s an easy thing to put the hand up and buy these horses but we’ll go home and work out who the trainer is and we’ll go from there.”
The record breaking colt is the first foal of Group II winning Fastnet Rock mare Anaheed, who was bred and retained to race by Sheikh Khalifa winning multiple Group races and earning over $1.5million in prizemoney.
Anaheed is the best of three winners from Group I winning sprinter Rostova, who was bought by Tim Stakemire on behalf of the Sheikh for $850,000 from the 2015 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.
Anaheed produced another colt last spring by I am Invincible, who has had 35 yearlings sell at an average $660,429 to be leading sire by average after three sessions..
