Half-sister to Dehorned Unicorn Headed to Magic Millions

Tara Madgwick - Saturday December 31

A modest $37,000 Inglis Classic purchase from the Widden Stud draft for Hancox Bloodstock, Star Witness gelding Dehorned Unicorn has been in hot form over the summer and posted his second Saturday win at Randwick on New Year’s Eve bringing a timely update for his half-sister headed to Magic Millions.

Trained by Joe Pride, Dehorned Unicorn has made solid progress this year and particularly in his current preparation rising from midweek grade to Saturday company.

Ridden by Sam Clipperton, he carried 59.5kg to a popular win in the Benchmark 78 event over 1100m as a well backed favoruite.

With five wins and three seconds from 14 starts, Dehorned Unicorn has won over $320,000 and there are more wins to come.

“His only below par runs were on wet tracks, so we’ll keep him away from them,” said Joe Pride.

“He’s a very tough horse and can keep making his way through the grades.”

Bred by Widden in partnership, Dehorned Unicorn is the best of three winners from Leap Lively, a three-quarter sister by Hinchinbrook to Group III winner Jade Marauder and half-sister to Group III winner Bliss Street from stakes-winner Jade Diva.

Widden will offer the yearling filly from Leap Lively by Zousain at Magic Millions as Lot 52 and she is pictured below.

Dehorned Unicorn was one of two metro winners for Star Witness on Saturday with four year-old mare Dazzling Lucy successful at Moonee Valley.
