Pint-sized gelding The Inevitable may have earned a trip to Dubai after unleashing his trademark turn of foot to take his stakes tally to five in Wednesday’s Listed Jacksons Security Newmarket (1200m) at Launceston.
Ridden by David Pires for Scott Brunton, the 7yo son of Dundeel made light of his 59.5kgs in running down stablemate First Accused (Turffontein) by half a length with a further three-quarter length back to Alpine Wolf (Alpine Eagle) in third.
The Inevitable advances his record to 12 wins, two seconds, and a third from 25 starts with earnings of $969,775.
Brunton has set some lofty goals the son of Dundeel.
“I was keen to take him to The Championships down the straight at Flemington because he is going that good this time around,” Brunton said.
“Tegan (Keys) has done a masterful job with him. We have had a lot of trouble with his feet, the farriers have done a great job helping us.
“He is a bona fide Group 1 horse every day of the week. From the Golden Eagle (12th in 2019), nothing has gone right from him.
“He is an incredible horse and is lightly raced. He is a 7yo on the page, but he doesn’t know it.
“A clean sweep (of the WFA races in Tasmania), then we will go to Dubai next year. That sounds good to me.”
Bred by Tori Park Stud The Inevitable was a $90,000 Magic Millions Adelaide purchase for David Brunton from the Cornerstone Stud draft. He is a half-brother to Group III winner Blahnik and stakes-winner Elysees and is the 14th and final foal of the stakes-winning King’s High mare Gift Bouquet who had 11 winners from 14 to race.
Arrowfield Stud’s Dundeel has 22 yearlings catalogued for the Gold Coast, 18 at the Inglis Classic, and 13 at Karaka.
