There
are no lofty spring plans in place for expensive Savabeel colt Kaonic, who
broke the ice at Canterbury on Wednesday with a stylish victory.
An unlucky third on debut last month, the Chris Waller trained colt was sent
out a hot favourite for the 1550 metre maiden.
With runaway leader Delos highballing out in front, Kaonic appeared to face a
task to win when turning for home, but unleashed a powerful finish to surge
clear and win by a length.
"He has a good action and has a good future," said Chris Waller.
"Canterbury is a great track, but I think you'll see him race better on a
bigger track."
Waller is keen to keep Kaonic in work for another run or two for education,
always with an eye on the Sydney Autumn Carnival next year.
A $425,000 NZB Premier purchase for Mulcaster Bloodstock from the Blandford Lodge draft, Kaonic runs for Neville Morgan and is the first winner for
stakes-winning Fastnet Rock mare Fast Love.
