Three from Four for Astern Filly Cinderella Days

Mark Smith - Wednesday October 5

Joe Pride informed the stewards before the race that the intention was to lead on Cinderella Days, and the three-year-old daughter of Astern did just that when never headed in a benchmark 64 over 1250m at Canterbury on Wednesday.

Ridden by Brenton Avdulla, Cinderella Days defeated the tenacious American Pharoah (USA) colt Cool Kaap by a long neck, with a further six and a quarter lengths back to the Casino Prince colt Surfers Royale in third.

Pride said Cinderella Days would likely spell with an eye to the 3yo riches in the autumn after taking her record to three wins and a third from four starts.

“I think it was a strong field looking at them in the enclosure. Particularly that horse of Chris’ (Cool Kaap), he is an impressive looking horse, ” Pride said.

“I’m not sure about her in that ground. Her future is in the autumn and beyond that. Very happy she has won two of three this time around.

“I will chat with David (Bentata), but we discussed before the run that this will do her this time around.

“She is doing a great job as she only had a short let-up from her win at Newcastle, so a nice spring spell might be the best thing for her.

“She is a lovely filly with a lot of quality. She is out of group 1 winning mare, and when they have that behind them, it gives you great confidence.”

A homebred for David Bentata, Cinderella Days is a half-sister to Group III VRC The Bart Cummings winner Persan (Pierro), from the 2012 Group 1 ATC Coolmore Classic heroine Ofcourseican.

The daughter of Mossman is a half-sister to Gimmethegreenlight (More Than Ready), a Group 1 winner in South Africa, where he is a leading stallion.

Cinderella Days is the last recorded foal of Ofcourseican (Canny Lad).
