Stakes Potential for Press Statement Mare

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday August 31

Press Statement is one of the quiet achievers on the Vinery Stud roster and he looked in fine order at their farm last weekend with his smart mare Roots headed back to Black Type racing following a stylish first up win at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

Trained by Chris Waller, stakes-placed Roots contested Group races at her last three runs before spelling and returned in great shape with a strong finishing win in the Benchmark 72 event over 1300m.

Her best furlong was her last as she hit top gear for James McDonald to score a half length win over Twilight Affair carrying 60.5kg.

uo;That was very impressive, she’s come back in really good order and has strengthened right up,” said James McDonald.

“It will be her turn to shine now and I think she is in for a really great preparation.”

Roots was bought as a yearling on the advice of Satomi Oka Bloodstock.

Roots was a $52,000 purchase for Yugengaisha Murakami Kinya Bokujo on the recommendation of Sydney based bloodstock agent Satomi Oka, from the Vinery Stud draft at the 2020 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale Highway Session.

With three wins and two placings from eight starts and over $120,000 in prizemoney, she is the best of two winners from Arctic Success, a half-sister to Group I STC Golden Slipper winner Polar Success, the dam of stakes-winner Lillemor.

A dual Group I winner by Hinchinbrook, Press Statement is a value option on the Vinery roster priced at $8,800.
