Darley’s champion sire Exceed and Excel is on the cusp of a big milestone racking up his 199th stakes-winner overnight in Ireland when Pirate Jenny won the Listed Yeomanstown Stud Stakes (6f) at Naas.
The Ger Lyons trained three year-old filly scored a three-quarter length win taking her overall record to three wins and two seconds from six starts.
She bounced back to win after an out of character unplaced effort at her previous run last month.
“Pirate Jenny is very tough. We should not have run her last day, it was too soon after her Cork run, and she just needs time between races. We're delighted with her,” said Ger Lyons.
Bought from the Tattersalls October Book 1 Yearling Sale for 105,000 guineas by Gaelic Bloodstock, Pirate Jenny is a half-sister to Group II winner Baraquero being the second stakes-winner from Chia Whopa, a winning half-sister by Oasis Dream to stakes-winner Jezebel, the dam of stakes-winner Ancient Goddess.
Turning 22, Exceed and Excel has had a remarkable stud career achieving success in both hemispheres which is not easy to do and has the overall statistics of 71.2% winners to runners and 8.4% SW to runner.
His 199 stakes-winners include 16 Group I winners and 111 of his stakes-winners were bred in the Southern Hemisphere.
Exceed and Excel stands this spring at a fee of $132,000.
