Entries Open for NZB’s Unrivaled Breeze Up Sale

Media Release - Friday July 1

Entries for New Zealand Bloodstock’s 2022 Ready to Run Sale of Two-Year-Olds are now open, with the Sale set to be held physically at the Karaka Sales Centre on 16 and 17 November. This year’s Breeze Ups will take place on Monday 3 and Tuesday 4 October at Te Rapa.

With a reputation like no other, NZB’s Ready to Run Sale is renowned for being the leading horses in training sale globally. The Sale continues to be held in the highest regard by agents, trainers and buyers and is a trusted source for many global industry participants.

  • NZB’s 2021 Ready to Run Sale average of $121,580 was a sale record and a 28% increase on the 2020 edition, defying the odds of exceptional circumstances due to COVID-19 restrictions
  • Despite hosting a completely virtual sale, NZB’s turnover of more than $20 million was 17% more than both Australian competitor sales' gross combined
  • Demand for NZB stock continued to skyrocket with international buyers accounting for 67% of the catalogue, while domestic buyers were also strong, outlaying 28% of the sale gross
  • NZB’s record average at the 2021 Ready to Run Sale was a clear 33% more than both Australian competitor sales' averages combined
  • The highest-priced two-year-old sold in Australasia each year has been purchased at Karaka for the last four consecutive years
  • Buyers using NZB’s online bidding platform in 2021 accounted for a staggering 51% of the total aggregate, realising more than $9.5 million in turnover remotely
  • In the current five seasons, NZB's Ready to Run Sale alumni have claimed 17 Group One titles, compared with just four Group Ones wins for both Australian two-year-old sales combined
  • Graduates of NZB’s Ready to Run Sale have also won more Group One races in the current five seasons than any other two-year-old Breeze Up Sale worldwide

NZB Bloodstock Executive Kane Jones reflected on the resilience of NZB’s Ready to Run Sale.

“Like most of our industry I’m sure, NZB is looking forward to putting the last two years of COVID-19 restrictions behind us.”

“The 2021 edition was hosted in trying circumstances. However, despite the Sale being held as a virtual event at Te Rapa for the first time - with no horses or an auditorium in sight - NZB was still able to increase the majority of key sale indicators, achieving strong results for vendors.

“This year, we highly anticipate the return of our Australian and Asian buying benches back on the ground at Karaka.

“With the support of our vendors, our buyers will have plenty of quality stock to inspect, as well as a brand new DoubleTree by Hilton Karaka hotel to stay in.

“We’re expecting strong attendance and are looking forward to seeing many of our overseas clients again in person,” he said.
