A Breednet ‘One to Watch’ when making an impressive winning debut last month, Silent Surrente confirmed that potential with a facile four length win at Ballarat on Thursday.
A three year-old half-sister to two stakes-winners by Melbourne Cup winner Fiorente (IRE), the Tony and Calvin McEvoy Silent Surrente was stepping up to 1500m on the synthetic track and bolted clear to win by four lengths.
She has a bit to live up to as a half-sister to multiple Group winner Silent Sovereign and smart stakes-winner Silent Command, but she looks to have inherited a good bit of the family talent.
“We think she’s a 2000m plus filly, so to do what she’s doing is a bonus,”: said Calvin McEvoy.
“Not a lot of horses go from winning their maiden to winning their next start and we look forward to getting her on the grass next time.”
Retained to race by her breeders, Silent Surrente is the fourth winner from four foals to race from Group III winning Face Value mare Silent Surround, who traces back to the family of Cox Plate winning filly Surround.
A proven source of stakes-winners, Fiorente is priced very affordably this spring at Widden Stud Victoria at $9,900.
He had a big result at the Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale today when his colt from Stockpin (NZ) made $160,000 for Blue Gum Farm when secured by Bahen Bloodstock.
The colt is a full brother to smart metro winner Florent and is from a half-sister to the dams of Group I Oaks winners El Patroness and Provocative.
