Deep Impact's Ghaanati Makes Statement on Debut

Mark Smith - Saturday June 4

A half-sister to Pride Of Dubai and Al Aneed by breed-shaper Deep Impact (JPN), Ghaanati looks to have the world at her feet after putting a smart field to the sword at her career debut in the Next Generation Sprinters Hcp (1100m) for 2yo fillies at Flemington.

Ridden by Damen Oliver for Peter and Paul Snowden, Ghaanati tracked the early leader Dusse before switching back inside to mount a challenge down the straight.

Ghaanati kept up a strong gallop to defeat the Rubick filly Bound For Home by three and three-quarter lengths with another daughter of Rubick, Dusse, a further short-head back in third.

“She’s very good out the gates so we were a little worried she would be exposed a bit too early,” stable representative Andrew Angelone said.

“She did get some (cover), but she was still a bit green and once she found the rail she lengthened out and let go.

uo;She a half to Pride Of Dubai by Deep Impact and is well bred and has always shown something. Last prep she was still a bit green, but this prep she has taken steps and has gone on with it.

“Ollie said after her trial the other week that she would get up to a mile, but at the moment she’s suited at that 1100, 1200, 1300 metres. She’s still pretty fast, so we’ll let her learn and hopefully she can get up over further.

“She’s only a petite filly. She’s definitely strengthened up from last prep. It was all about giving her a good grounding.”

A homebred for Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum that was foaled and raised at Segenhoe, Ghaanati is a half-sister to Group 1 MRC Blue Diamond Stakes and Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes winner and successful sire Pride Of Dubai (Street Cry) and Listed MRC Gothic Stakes winner Al Aneed (More Than Ready).

Her dam Al Anood (Danehill) is a half-sister to Group 1 Prix de Diane winner Rafha, the dam of Invincible Spirit.

Al Anood has a yearling filly by Lonhro and a weanling colt by American Pharoah (USA). The daughter of Danehill missed to Wooton Bassett (GB) last spring.
