Juvenile Trial Watch – Randwick

Tara Madgwick - Monday May 16

Seven heats at the Randwick trials were won by 2YO's that included a flying son of Mazu and Hitotsu's sire Maurice (Jpn) and a gorgeous looking filly by I Am Invincible.

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Kibou had one start in the spring in the Group III ATC Breeders Plate finishing ninth and pulling up shinsore before being spelled and gelded and the son of Maurice (Jpn) looks to be heading the right way.

He won his first trial back on May 2 and looked good again here opening up to win by five lengths.

Bought from Inglis Classic as was Mazu, Kibou was snapped up by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott / Kestrel Thoroughbreds for $170,000 from the Arrowfield draft and he is from Fortiche, a half-sister to multiple Group winner Mic Mac.

Kibou, could he be another 3YO star for Maurice next season?

Also catching our eye was the Michael Freedman trained I Am Invincible filly Tailwinds, a $610,000 Inglis Easter purchase for James Harron Bloodstock that runs for Fairway Thoroughbreds.

Yet to race, Tailwinds had one trial back in January and this was her second trial this preparation and she looks ready to go racing after forging clear for a comfortably two and a half length win.

Bred and sold by Cressfield, Tailwinds is the second foal from brilliantly fast Manhattan Rain sprinter Wild Rain.

Tailwinds, when James Harron picks out a filly for John Camilleri's Fairway Thoroughbreds, you know she's going to be good looking!

Other 2YO heat winners were: Calgary Stampede (Snitzel), Californiachoicest (Redoute’s Choice), Tragara (Written Tycoon), Asva (Capitalist) and Amont (Headwater).
