First Runner a Winner for Bolt D’Oro

Tara Madgwick - Thursday April 14

Medaglia D’Oro’s multiple Group I winning son Bolt D’Oro (USA) shuttled to Spendthrift Australia in Victoria for just one season with that crop of foals selling at the yearling sales this year so news that his first runner in the US is a winner will be of interest to anyone that has bought one here this year.

Bolt D'Oro (USA) shuttled to Spendthrift Australia for one season.

Bolt d’Oro sired his first winner from his first starter on Wednesday when his 2-year-old colt Pop d’Oro captured a Trial race gate to wire at Turf Paradise.

Breaking from the rail, the speedy colt shot to the lead and never looked back, proving best while stopping the clock in 52.03 seconds for 4 ½ furlongs over a fast local main track.

Owned and trained by Jose Luna Silva, the dark bay colt was bred in Arizona by H & E Ranch and is out of the Unbridled’s Song mare Just Like Pop.

Bolt d’Oro’s first crop of 2-year-olds have gotten off to a good start in 2022, as they’ve proven to be popular in the sales ring, too. From 17 to sell at the OBS and Fasig-Tipton sales, Bolt d’Oro juveniles are averaging $329,865 including a $1,200,000 sale-topper at F-T Gulfstream last month.

At OBS March, he had sales of $900,000, $600,000, $400,000 and $400,000. Among those have been multiple bullet workers at the breeze shows, including one last Sunday on day one of the OBS April under tack shows in Ocala.

Campaigned by Mick and Wendy Ruis, Bolt d’Oro began his career 3-for-3 including back-to-back wins in the Del Mar Futurity (G1) and FrontRunner Stakes (G1) in California.

His 103 Beyer earned while dominating the FrontRunner by 7 ¾ lengths in his first start around two turns makes him the fastest multiple Grade 1-winning colt America has seen since Uncle Mo a dozen years ago.

Bolt D’Oro has 57 live foals in his one and only Australian crop and nine have found their way to the sales with his best result a filly from Star Stopper snapped up at Magic Millions Adelaide by Proven Thoroughbreds/O'Dea Hoysted Racing from the draft of Mill Park.
