One To Watch - Kilmore

Mark Smith - Thursday April 7

The regally-bred I Am Invincible filly Quraysha showed enough in Thursday’s win in a fillies and mares maiden plate over 1100m at Kilmore to indicate she has better races in her sights.

Never a factor when unplaced at her debut over 1200m at Ballarat last October, there was plenty of money to suggest the stable expected a significant improvement.

Ridden by Linda Meech for Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, Quraysha travelled sweetly behind the leader Moon Yanco.

Extracted to the four-wide lane in the straight, Quraysha quickly had the measure of her rivals. The 3yo daughter of I Am Invincible defeated the 2yo Snitzel filly Oasis Gold by lengths, with the 3yo Odyssey Moon filly Moon Yanco back in third.

“They did not go that fast, so the win was probably better than it looked,” Meech said.

“She was a class above them today. I really like her – she is probably city class.

“It’s not often in a race that you feel you have all the time in the world at the 200m.

“All credit to her. She gives you a lovely feel. Hopefully, she can go on to bigger and better things.”

A homebred for Baramul Stud’s Gerry Harvey, Quraysha is a half-sister to Listed stakes winner Meuse (Snitzel).

She is the second winner from five to race from the top-class Encosta De Lago mare Precious Lorraine whose three wins came in stakes races, the Group III SAJC Fillies Classic, Listed Oaklands Plate, and Listed VRC Gibson Carmichael Stakes.

A daughter of Redoute’s Choice’s sister Monsoon Wedding, Precious Lorraine was purchased by Newgate Farm for $1.5million from the Teeley Asset Dispersal at the 2014 National Broodmare Sale.

She was back at the same venue four years later, where Baramul Stud shelled out $650,000 while carrying Quraysha.

Baramul Stud consigned a brother to Quraysha to the 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, where Victorian Alliance/Suman Hedge Bloodstock (FBAA)/David Redvers Bloodstock had the last say at $600,000.

Precious Lorraine has a yearling filly, and a weanling colt by I Am Invincible and visited Dundeel last spring.

Yarraman Park Stud will consign Precious Lorraine’s daughter Loreta to the Inglis Chairman’s Sale in May.

The daughter of Sebring is carrying a positive test To I Am Invincible.
