One to Watch – Sha Tin

Tara Madgwick - Sunday March 27

Hong Kong punters were expecting an easy win for the red hot favourite in the opening race at Sha tin on Sunday and weren’t left disappointed.

Flying Season wins by a space - image HKJC

Three year-old Exosphere gelding Flying Season blasted his rivals in the Class 3 sprint over 1000m, opening up to win by four lengths in 56.19 seconds.

Trained by Manfred Man, Flying Season was beaten a nose when second on debut at Sha Tin on February 12 before breaking his maiden in style on March 6 when sporting blinkers.

He proved the merit of that victory with an even more impressive win on Sunday.

“Flying Season keeps on improving and he’s doing everything well now,” said winning rider Jerry Chau said.

“In the beginning, he jumped slow and did things wrong, but now he’s changed a lot.”

Not offered for public auction, Flying Season is the second winner from Saunter, a Darley bred placed daughter of Exceed and Excel that was sold off the track in 2014 for $2,000 at the Magic Millions National Sale.

Saunter is from stakes-placed Lanquin, who comes from the family of Group winners Ferragamo, Famous Seamus and Ahdashim.

Exosphere stands at Oaklands Stud, click for more information.

Flying Season is the first winner in Hong Kong for Oaklands Stud based Exosphere, a Group I winning son of champion sire Lonhro.

Exosphere covered 55 mares last spring at the bargain price of $4,950.
