Slipper Contender in the Making

Tara Madgwick - Monday March 14

Last November when the feature spring two year-old racing had come to an end we ran a story highlighting a colt that was doing the special things his pedigree had suggested and here we are in Golden Slipper week and he’s ready to rumble in the richest two year-old race in the world.

Sejardan wins the G2 Todman Stakes - image Steve Hart.

Gary Portelli has already won a Golden Slipper with the brilliant filly She Will Reign, but as he has pointed out it’s a lot more profitable to win it with a colt and he may have just the horse to do it, although does have another great back-up for this year in Rebel Dane filly Fireburn.

From the last crop of foals sired by 2008 Golden Slipper winner Sebring, Sejardan has done little wrong with three wins and a third in the Inglis Millennium from just four starts and $1million in the bank before we even get to the Slipper!

A $160,000 Inglis Classic purchase for his trainer from the Middlebrook Valley Lodge draft, Sejardan was bred by Dale Miller, who retains a share in his ownership with other co-owners including John and Anne McDonnell, who raced Sebring and members of the Wallace family that raced Choisir.

His pedigree is pure speed being by a Golden Slipper winner in Sebring, whose next two dams are by Golden Slipper winners Flying Spur and Luskin Star.

His dam Miss Amajardan was a very fast metro winning two year-old by Snitzel’s half-brother Hinchinbrook with her next two dams by champion sire Encosta de Lago and Danzero, who is yet another Golden Slipper winning sire in the pedigree.

Sejardan has three strains of Danehill 4 x 4 x 5 and his fourth dam is blue hen Procrastinate, so this likable colt has delivered everything his pedigree said he should to date and has brought some impressive pedigree updates for his yearling half-brother by Trapeze Artist to be offered at Inglis Easter by Bhima Thoroughbreds as Lot 288..

The following images from Middlebrook Valley Lodge reveal a star colt in the making!
