One to Watch – Sunshine Coast

Tara Madgwick - Sunday January 2

The full sister to Group I BRC Queensland Oaks winner Duais made a winning debut at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday giving the impression she may well be another star on the rise for her sire Shamus Award.

Three year-old filly Amity Gal made light of the heavy ground to lead all the way and win the 1000m maiden by a length and a quarter as a hot favourite.

She had looked something special in two brilliant barrier trials wins and delivered the goods on race day when it counted.

d to race by her breeders, Amity Gal is trained by David Vandyke, who also prepared her half-sister to Baccarat Baby to win eight races and over $500,000 in prizemoney with a highlight win in the Group III Sunshine Coast Guineas.

Shamus Award is the sire of Amity Gal.
Amity Gal is the fourth winner from five foals to race from terrific producer Meerlust, a minor winner by Johannesburg (USA), whose third dam is legendary matriarch Fanfreluche.

Meerlust produced a filly foal last spring by All Too Hard and was then covered by Bivouac.
