The Spendthrift Australia colours were carried to victory at Sandown on Wednesday by progressive colt Oughton, the most expensive yearling by champion sire More Than Ready (USA) sold in 2020.
Having his second race start following a debut fourth at Geelong on December 1, the Team Hawkes trained Oughton showed a lot more dash with blinkers added to his gear.
He surged forward to lead and stayed there for Jye McNeil winning the 1400m maiden by half a length.
"He had all the breaks today. He jumped, went to the front and Jye rode it very well, didn't panic, just sat and waited until he got through the dip and that was the difference between winning and losing,” said Wayne Hawkes.
Oughton was a $900,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Lime Country Thoroughbreds draft for Spendthrift Australia and is the fourth winner from La Fluorescent, a half-sister by General Nediym to Group winners Savvy Nature and Addictive Nature.
Lime Country will offer the current yearling filly by Zoustar from La Fluorescent at Magic Millions as Lot 187.
