The Annabel Neasham-trained debutant Soaring Ambition firmed from 200/1 to $11 equal second favourite for the Magic Millions 2yo Classic when coming from the tail of the field to win Wednesday’s Magic Millions 2yo Classic (LR) (1100m).
With Tommy Berry in the saddle, Soaring Ambition was speared off on the home turn. Once balanced up the daughter of Not A Single Doubt charged home to defeat the Hellbent filly Miss Hellfire by a neck with a further short-half-head back to the Capitalist colt Wealthy Investor in third.
It was the second feature on the day for Neasham after Wisdom Of Water captured the Magic Millions 3yo and 4yo.
“I am still having heart palpitations – I thought she was going to get brought down around the bend,” Neasham said.
“The horse inside her drifted out and it looked like she may have clipped heels.
“She is such a gutsy filly and I have always had a lot of time for her.
“It is great for (Zhongli Thoroughbreds) Mr Gu.
“She has been an obvious filly for this race all along. We haven’t got her to the races before today, but we were pretty confident. She drew wide and we were in two minds whether to wait for Saturday.
“They went quick up front and we left it to Tommy and he timed it to perfection.
“She’s obviously very talented because everything did not go her way and she still got the job done.
“Bring on the Gold Coast.”
Bred by Arrowfield Stud and offered in their Magic Millions draft, Soaring Ambition was bought by Zhongli Thoroughbreds for $270,000.
She is the third winner from four to race out of the unraced Starcraft mare Tango, a sister to the Group III Carbine Club Stakes winner Lunar Rise.
That name will be familiar to regular Breednet readers as Lunar Rise was turned into a more than handy showjumper for the Daybreak Farm team and is now enjoying life in his new role as Troop Horse Martin in the NSW Mounted Police unit. (Read the story here).
Also, a half-sister to the stakes-placegetter Craft (Manhattan Rain) and King Of The Dance (Animal Kingdom), Tango missed to the Autumn Sun in 2019, but on August 14 Tango foaled a Castelvecchio filly.
Soaring Ambition becomes the 79th black-type winner for Arrowfield stud’s pensioned Not A Single Doubt.
