Deep Field 2YO Colt Wins on Debut

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday December 8

Eligible for the Magic Millions 2YO Classic, promising Deep Field colt California Deeply made a winning debut at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

Trained by Peter and Paul Snowden, California Deeply won his only previous trial at Randwick last month and presented in the mounting yard like a professional.

He did everything right for Kerrin McEvoy and took a run between horses to charge home strongly and win the 1100m maiden by a neck.

“It was good to see him strong late after showing pace,” said Peter Snowden.

“He was fairly forward for today, but not screwed down, so he will improve.

“He’s a very push button sort of horse and is a Magic Millions colt, a real racehorse.”

Kerrin McEvoy was well pleased with California Deeply.

“Full credit to my fellow, I gave him a couple of taps and he really picked up,” McEvoy said.

“He’s a nicely built colt that moves well, a nice horse going forward.”

California Deeply as a yearling.

A $380,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Coolmore draft for Asian Bloodstock Services, California Deeply was bred by Kingstar Farm and is the third winner from Group III placed Murtajill mare Murtle Turtle, who was a winner at two.

Murtle Turtle had a weanling colt by Extreme Choice sell for $220,000 at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale to Bevan Smith Bloodstock/Ferguson Bloodstock and he has been entered for the 2022 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale where he will be offered by Bell River Thoroughbreds as Lot 100.

Murtle Turtle was on-sold this year at Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale for $180,000 to Merricks Station Pty Ltd/Group 1 Bloodstock Pty Ltd (FBAA) and has foaled this spring producing a colt by Shalaa (IRE).
