First Deep Field 2YO Winner of New Season

Tara Madgwick - Saturday November 20

Newgate Farm's Deep Field has been in the news this week for his popularity at the NZB Ready to Run Sale and was in the winner’s circle at Sunshine Coast on Saturday with his first two year-old winner of the new season in Rose of Shiraz.

Trained by Gillian Heinrich, Rose of Shiraz was easy in the market but led all the way from barrier one to score a tenacious short head win over I Am Invincible colt Invinovich.

“The last 100m she really jumped out of the ground which I didn’t expect to be honest,” said winning rider Anthony Allen.

“She has a lot of raw talent there so once she puts it together and learns how to race, it will be good.”

Rose of Shiraz is Magic Millions eligible being a $120,000 purchase from the Alexia Fraser draft for Mulcaster Bloodstock although runs in the colours of her breeder Heinrich Bloodstock.

Rose of Shiraz as a yearling

A full sister to smart metro winner Pinot Party, Rose of Shiraz is the second winner from Shiraz Attack, who was also trained by Gillian Heinrich and won over $135,000 scoring four metropolitan wins.

Shiraz Attack is a grand-daughter of Group III winner Simply Believe, the family also producing Group winners So Si Bon, Faith Hill and Global Exchange.

Shiraz Attack has foaled this spring producing a filly by Capitalist
