Written Tycoon's Milton Park Claims Sale Cup

Mark Smith - Sunday October 24

Australia's reigning champion stallion, Written Tycoon, joined the Victorian stallion onslaught when his 4yo son Milton Park led at every call in Sunday's $200,000 Listed Sale Cup (1600m).

Ridden by Jarrod Fry for trainer John Moloney, Milton Park never looked in any danger of being caught when defeating Barbie's Fox (Foxwedge) by two lengths with a short-half-head back to Good And Proper (Shooting To Win) in third.

Fry noted the strength of form coming out of the Seymour Cup at Ballarat, where Mr Brightside defeated Wicklow Town with Milton Park third.

"The form was good out of the Seymour Cup, with (fifth-placed) Just Folk winning the Group II (Crystal Mile), and he was a length behind us," Fry said.

"I was pretty confident today with that form. He is the sort of horse that has got to get into his rhythm and stoke up earlier than you generally would.

"It's good to win for Johnny. I finished my apprenticeship with Johnny, and he has been very loyal to me. We had Saltpeter win on Caulfield Cup day, and he has the team flying. It's good to be a part of it."

With his first stakes success, Milton Park advances his record to six wins, a second and a third from 16 starts with earnings of $443,205.

Bred and owned by loyal stable clients Meridy Taite and Julie Sampson, Milton Park is the best of six winners from seven to race out of the stakes-winning Flying Spur mare Gawne.

Milton Park's half-sister Matron (O'Reilly) is the dam of the Listed VRC Exford Plate winner Legionaire (Stratum).

Gawne is a three-quarter sister to Group 1 WATC Railway Stakes winner Great Shot (Magnus) and a half-sister to Nine Covers, the dam of the dual Group III winner Casino Dancer (Casino Prince).

Gawne has a 2yo colt by So You Think and foaled a filly by Shooting To Win on September 28.

Milton Park becomes the 44th stakes-winner for Yulong Stud's Written Tycoon, who will serve a bevy of the best mares in the country this spring at a fee of $165,000.
