Dream Queen Captures Crockett Stakes

Mark Smith - Saturday October 23

Never further back than second in four starts in New Zealand, Dream Queen blotted her copybook when finishing seventh at Mornington at her first start for Ben and JD Hayes.

The daughter of Super Easy was back on her pedestal at Moonee Valley on Saturday with a hard-fought win in the Listed William Crockett Stakes (1200m) for three-year-old fillies.

With Luke Nolen in the saddle, Dream Queen defeated the luckless Our Heidi (Needs Further) by a half-head with the same distance back to New York Baby (Written Tycoon) in third.

Dream Queen was a $1,500 weanling purchase on Gavelhouse for former trainer Ken Rae on behalf of Sue Martin.

Purchased privately by clients of Lindsay Park, Dream Queen advances her record to three wins and two seconds from six starts with earnings of $131,478.

Ben Hayes said New Zealand had been a happy hunting ground for the stable recently.

uo;That was fantastic. She was a filly that we purchased from New Zealand on her race form, and we’ve had a lot of success with New Zealand horses lately with Mr Brightside, Super Thief, and now her,” Hayes said

“I thought it was a great ride by Luke. Big congratulations to all the staff at home. To get these rewards is really big for us.”

Nolen said the fill has a bit of learning to do.

When she got to the front, she was a bit like when she worked here at on Tuesday. She was all at sea a bit,” Nolen said.

“I think the penny dropped. I think they’re going to have some fun with this filly - it is all upside.

“She’s a stakes winner now, and what she has been able to do while having a look around and doing a few things wrong and still win was very encouraging.”

Bred by Hallmark Stud, Dream Queen is the best of two winners from as many to race out of the Gold Mine mare Hampton’s Gold a half-sister to Orakei Korako from the prolific family of Gee I Jane and Miss Jessie Jay.

Ballyvaughan Partnership purchased a weanling filly by Derryn out of Hampton’s Gold for $20,000 at the 2021 NZB National Weanling Sale.

Hampton’s Gold was covered by Telperion last spring.

Dream Queen becomes the seventh stakes-winner for Hallmark Stud’s Super Easy, a son of Darci Brahma out of the wonder broodmare Parfore.
