Stakes Breakthrough for Pride Of Dubai's Sirileo Miss

Mark Smith - Wednesday October 13

The Symon Wilde-trained Sirileo Miss made it four wins on the bounce when claiming her maiden stakes success in Wednesday’s $200,000 Group III Catanach's Ladies' Day Vase (1600m) at Caulfield.

Making it a double on the day for Linda Meech, the 4yo daughter of Pride Of Dubai took the lead at the top of the straight and was courageous in fending off the challenge of Foxy Frida (Foxwedge) by a head with the same distance back to Harmony Rose Glass Harmonium in third.

A $60,000 purchase by Wilde Racing from the Miranda Park draft at the 2019 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale, Sirileo Miss advances her record to five wins, two seconds, and a third from nine starts with earnings of $347,150.

Last season she finished third in the Group III Auraria Stakes at Morphettville before a fifth-place finish behind Media Award in the Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m) in May.

“She’s tough. We probably didn’t expect her to be outside of the leader,” stable rep Ben Casanella said.

“We thought Harmony Rose would probably take up the lead and slacken off and that happened.

“They had a chance to beat her in the straight and couldn’t do it.

“We’re chipping away and Symon has put a lot of years into his facility. It’s a wonderful facility on the coast at Warrnambool and the team will get a massive buzz out of this.

“He’s purchased a lot of untried horses and we’re building a team and competing at Group level.

“This horse has got a great lot of owners in it. I think Nanna Bryant was in tears after the benchmark 78 so the waterworks will open up after a Group III, but everyone does a great job and will be thrilled.”

A half-sister to stakes-placed Sophia's Choice (Fastnet Rock), Sirileo Miss is the best of seven winners from as many to race out of the winning Galileo mare She’s Sirius.

Purchased by Miranda Park Bloodstock for $75,000 at the 2017 Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale, She’s Sirius is a half-sister to Listed VRC Ottawa Stakes winner Spectrolite.

She’s Sirius has a 2yo Divine Prophet filly named She’s Divine and a yearling colt by Merchant Navy.

She was not covered last spring.

Bred by Gary O’Meara, Sirileo Miss becomes the 13th stakes-winner for Coolmore Stud’s Pride Of Dubai who stands at a fee of $22,000 this spring.
