20th G1 Winner for Frankel

Tara Madgwick - Friday October 8

Frankel’s phenomenal year of success got a little better overnight when his undefeated two year-old filly Inspiral took out the Group I Newmarket Fillies Mile (1m).

A homebred for Cheveley Park Stud, the John and Thady Gosden trained Inspiral raced well clear for Frankie Dettori to score a dominant two and a half length and bookmaker Paddy Power reacted by cutting her to 7-2 favourite (from 6-1) for next year's Guineas.

“Inspiral travelled well into the race and handled the Dip. I'm very happy with her and she took it well,” said John Gosden.

“She is a big girl but she is getting stronger all the time. I think she will get a mile and a quarter no problem in time, but a mile and a half? I don't know.

“You either go straight to the Guineas, go for a trial or a racecourse gallop but it is a long way off. All I know is she is not going to Del Mar. She is one to put away for next year.”

A half-sister to stakes-placed Celestran, Inspiral is the best of four winners from Group I placed Starscope, a half-sister by Selkirk to stakes-winner Solar Magic from the family of Group I winning miler Medicean.

Inspiral is the 20th Group I winner for Juddmonte Farms Frankel, who is generating some sensational career statistics.

Frankel runs at just over 68% winners to runners and has 15.5% stakes-winners to runners with a quarter of his 80 stakes-winners now Group I winners.

Since the start of this year, Frankel has sired 25 stakes-winners worldwide, eight of them Group I winners including his Australian Southern Hemisphere time bred offspring Hungry Heart and Converge.

He also ticked the box this year for Classic success with the Godolphin owned colts Adayar and Hurricane Lane winning the Epsom and Irish Derbies respectively.
