Exciting young sire Churchill (IRE) has enjoyed good success with his first Northern Hemisphere bred two year-olds this year and his stock were popular at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1 this week.
His top seller was a colt from proven stakes producer Tanaghum that made 440,000 guineas for Barronstown Stud when bought by Sackville Donald.
The colt is a sibling to nine winners highlighted by Group I winner Matterhorn, Group II winner Bangkok, Group III winner Tactic and stakes-winner Yaazy as well as the dam of Champion Miler Ribchester.
Churchill also had good results with a filly from Mora Bai selling for 250,000 guineas and a colt from Katiyra selling for 200,000 guineas.
By champion sire Galileo, Churchill has his first Australian two year-olds on the track this season with his first runner Robusto (2c Churchill x She’s Clean, by Redoute’s Choice) performing well last Saturday in the Listed VRC Maribyrnong Trial.
The Chris Waller trained colt began awkwardly and was never very comfortable on the slow ground at his first gallop up the Flemington straight, but he still ran well to finish fourth beaten a little over two lengths in a field of 11.
Churchill is back in Australia this spring at a fee of $22,000 and is already the sire of three stakes-winners in the Northern Hemisphere.
Saxon Warrior did best with a filly from Archangel Gabriel that made 325,000 guineas for Stauffenberg Bloodstock when secured by Blandford Bloodstock.
The filly had a timely pedigree update as she is now a half-sister to stakes-winner Ville de Grace from a full sister to US Group I winner Prince Arch.
Saxon Warrior also had big results with a colt from Aktoria selling for 300,000 guineas and a colt from Cay Dancer selling for 205,000 guineas.
Saxon Warrior is back in Australia this spring at a fee of just $13,750 and will have his first Southern Hemisphere bred yearlings at sales in 2022.
Consigned by Baroda Stud, the China Horse Clube bred colt was bought by Elliott/McElroy and is a colt with a serious stallion’s pedigree.
He is from blue blood Galileo mare Hourglass, a half-sister to champion miler and sire Shamardal from the family of Dubai World Cup winner and champion sire Street Cry.
The first Southern Hemisphere bred yearlings by Justify will be offered at Australasian sales in 2022. The powerhouse chestnut is back in Australia this spring at a fee of $55,000.
