Zoustar Colt Wins G3 Guineas Prelude

Tara Madgwick - Saturday September 18

Dashing Zoustar colt Lightsaber is always an impressive sight in the parade ring and he delivered when it counted at Caulfield on Saturday finding his best form to win the Group III MRC Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m).

Trained by Peter Moody, Lightsaber was fit and ready to fire at his third run back from a spell and appreciated a step out to 1400m, a trip that has already brought him success with a win in the Group II VRC sires Produce Stakes last season.

He enjoyed a good run just off the pace under Luke Nolen and was strong through the line to beat Godolphin entry Brigantine by half a length.

“The really pleasing part of it was I asked him to fire away and then he came back underneath me and you could have ridden him on a bit of cotton, so going to the mile doesn’t pose any fears for us,” said Luke Nolen.

“Hopefully he’s on an upward spiral and we’re three weeks away from his grand final and hopefully everything falls in line for that.”

Lightsaber has won four of eight starts and already returned over $440,000 in prizemoney making him a cheap purchase at $100,000 for Blueblood Thoroughbreds, who secured him at the 2020 Inglis Ready 2 Race Sale last October.

The son of Zoustar had been pinhooked by JCS Racing for $80,000 out of the Aquis Farm draft at the 2020 Classic Yearling Sale

Bred by Emirates Park, Lightsaber is the second foal and first to race out of the unraced Dream Ahead (USA) mare Dream Cirque.

A half-sister to stakes-placed winner Distant Rock, Dream Cirque is a granddaughter of Fastnet Rock’s sister Cirque du Soleil.

Dream Cirque was covered last spring by Tassort and has a yearling colt by Capitalist.

Lightsaber is the third stakes-winner of the new season for Widden Stud’s champion sire Zoustar, who also has a serious contender for the Group I MRC Thousand Guineas in Zouzarella.

Zoustar stands at a fee of $154,000 this spring.
