The Tuncurry meeting on Friday was abandoned after just four races, but that was time enough for Davali Thoroughbreds Alison and David Hush to celebrate a debut victory for their Headwater colt Heights.
Davali Thoroughbreds are big supporters of the Breednet Foal Gallery and in 2018 sent in this picture of a Headwater colt from Anabaa (USA) mare Kermis.
Consigned to Inglis Classic in their draft, the colt passed in shy of his $50,000 reserve so was retained to race, a decision which may turn into a very good one.
Given to Newcastle trainer Todd Howlett, who has a share in his ownership, Heights was placed in two country barrier trials in preparation for his debut and turned in a sterling performance.
He settled back in the field for Lee Magorrian and powered to the line to win the 1200m maiden by a length and three-quarters running away.
Heights has matured into a gorgeous looking colt and one can sense there are many more wins in store.
He is the second winner from Kermis, an unraced half-sister to stakes-winner Cathay Lady, who is by Headwater’s sire Exceed and Excel.
