28 Winners in 27 Days for Deep Field

Tara Madgwick - Friday August 27

Newgate Farm’s Deep Field is at present tracking the calendar with 28 Australian winners in the first 27 days of the new racing season his success reflecting the strength of his three, four and five year-old runners which are his first three crops.

Deep Field stood at a fee of $22,000 for this first four seasons and was super popular with breeders covering on average well over 200 mares in each of those years.

The sheer weight of numbers from those  books is really coming into play now that his progeny are maturing and hitting their straps as he did himself as a racehorse.

His winners on Friday are four year-old gelding Full Coverage, who won his second race when scoring over a mile at Taree at just his fifth start, four year-old mare Deep Reef, who also won over a mile breaking her maiden at her second start at Gosford and three year-old colt Deep Blast, who won at Pakenham over 1000m at his third start.

Trained by Ben and JD Hayes, Deep Blast placed at his two previous starts so was overdue for the win and justifies his lofty purchase price.

Deep Blast was the top priced offering at the 2020 Inglis Ready 2 Race Sale fetching $610,000 for Lime Country Thoroughbreds when secured by Louis Ho / Macau Jockey Club.

He was a successful pinhook having been bought by Regal Farm Partnership / Upper Bloodstock / Teng Long / McKeever Bloodstock from the Canning Downs draft at Inglis Classic for $230,000.

Deep Field stands at Newgate Farm this spring at a fee of $88,000.
