Stakes Goal for So You Think Mare

Tara Madgwick - Saturday August 14

Progressive So You Think mare So You Assume came out of last season in top form and kept up the good work at Caulfield on Saturday to win a Benchmark 84 event over 1700m positioning herself as a contender for Black type races this spring.

The Shane Nichols trained four year-old surged forward from the outside to take up the lead for Dean Yendall and dashed right away after turning for home.

She stuck to her guns over the concluding stages to win by a long head and has now won four of 11 starts banking over $230,000 in prizemoney.

So You Assume was compared to Shane Nichols former top class mare I Am a Star, who won two Group I races at a mile, although she has a way to go to emulate her success, but may look next to the Group II MVRC Stocks Stakes (1600m).

“I don’t think she’s a filly I’d be wanting to take to 2000m, so I think we might come back to a mile which may mean she has a little freshen up for a race like the Stocks Stakes,” said Nichols.

Dean Yendall was impressed with So You Assume and thinks she can measure up to Black Type.

"Hopefully she can follow in the footsteps of I Am A Star,” said Yendall.

“She's going well enough. All going well and she turns out well like Shane had her today, and she eats well and does everything right in the meantime, I wouldn't see any issue in why she couldn't go there and give it a shake. "

A $40,000 Inglis Premier Book 2 purchase from the Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm draft for her trainer, So You Assume is the first foal from Remlaps Jewel, a winning half-sister by Choisir to Group I ATC Golden Rose winner Manawanui.
