G2 Winner Fasika to be Offered on Inglis Digital

Media Release - Thursday August 12

Breeders will be presented with another world-class rare gem when the G1-performing mare Fasika (So You Think) is offered in the Inglis Digital August (Late) Online Auction.

The Joe Pride trainee - synonymous with a tough, on-speed racing pattern - secured five wins and five minor placings from 15 starts for $762,000 in prizemoney.

Fasika wins the G2 Sapphire Stakes at Randwick - image Steve Hart.

Fasika won her first two starts – as a 3YO filly – with significant ease before stepping up to Stakes class for the first time at start No.3 and winning the South Pacific Classic over 1400m at Randwick during The Championships in 2019.

From then on, she raced exclusively in either Stakes races or newly formed ‘rich races’, defeating the likes of Santa Ana Lane, Tofane, Bivouac, Super Seth, I Am Excited, Behemoth, Fierce Impact, Dreamforce, Mizzy, Sweet Deal, Fiesta, Zousain, Standout, Wild Planet, Madam Rouge, Champagne Cuddles etc.

Fasika  won three Stakes races during her career – the South Pacific Classic, the G2 Sapphire Stakes over 1200m and the G3 Wenona Girl Handicap also over 1200m – and placed in four others.

She also finished third behind dual G1 winners Tofane and Pierata in the G1 All Aged Stakes over 1400m at just her 10th start.

Fasika is arguably the fastest daughter of top-class sire So You Think – himself responsible for 33 Stakes winners and seven G1 winners – out of winning Redoute’s Choice mare Jarada.

Champion sire Redoute’s Choice is broodmare sire of 121 Stakes winners including 22 G1 winners.

Tricolours Racing’s James Moss – who selected Fasika at the Easter Yearling Sale and paid $120,000 for her before managing her racing career – described her as “the perfect specimen’’.

“She’s what every colonial breeder is looking for – big, strong and powerful, a genuine G1 mare that possesses sustained speed, has an on-pace racing style, a powerful finish and proven against the best. She’s the perfect mare, the perfect specimen for a breeder,’’ Moss said.

“I can’t imagine there’d be a stud master in the country or even further afield that wouldn’t want a mare like her amongst their mares, she has all the attributes to make an outstanding broodmare.

“When we first saw her at Easter she just had a real presence about her, a beautiful head, so much strength already and she filled out into a magnificent physical and a bloody fast race mare.

“She’s proven herself a genuine G1 Weight For Age performer, she raced against and beat the best.’’

Moss said he didn’t hesitate to offer Fasika through the Inglis Digital platform once the decision was made to sell her.

“Inglis has been the market leader in this space for a long time now, the exposure you get through these Inglis Digital sales is extraordinary and the results speak for themselves, I mean you only need to look at Funstar selling for $2.7m last month to realise top-level mares can make their price through Inglis Digital,’’ Moss said.

“Those who get to see her in the flesh over the next couple of weeks and those who see videos and photos that will be available will soon realise what a strong mare she has developed into physically and while it will be sad to say goodbye, she is going to make a lucky breeder extremely happy over the next decade or more.’’

Inglis Digital’s Business Manager Nick Melmeth added: “She is not a G1 winner but there is no doubting that she was a G1 race mare and much of her form, particularly relative to many other fillies and mares that have sold in recent seasons, is absolutely outstanding.

“We are thrilled that James and his partners have entrusted us with the privilege of selling her for the next phase of her life.

“As was the case with Funstar, we feel that Fasika is a mare that major commercial investors, be they based locally or internationally, need to take very seriously indeed.’’

For enquiries in relation to Fasika, please contact Nick Melmeth or a member of the Inglis Bloodstock Team.

Entries for the Inglis Digital August (Late) Online Auction are now open and close on Wednesday, August 18 at midnight.
