Zorro's Dream Gets His Reward

Mark Smith - Saturday August 7

So often a silver medalist, Zorro's Dream took his place at the top of the podium with a thoroughly deserved success in the Jockeys Celebration Day Hcp (1100m) at Flemington on Saturday.

Since back to back wins at Bendigo in May, the son of Toronado (IRE) has run up a sequence of four seconds and a third.

Under a perfectly timed ride by apprentice Will Price, the Mitch Freedman-trained gelding finished powerfully to defeat the Deep field mare Teramia by a half-length with the Helmet mare Modear a long-neck back in third.

Purchased by Wylie Dalziel Racing/Peter Moody/Darren Weir for $80,000 from the Armidale Stud draft at the 2018 Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale, Zorro's Dream advances his record to four wins, nine seconds and three thirds from 18 starts with earnings of $215,560.

"It's a weight off the shoulders, to be honest. He deserved to win a race like this," Freedman said.

t;He's had a few things go against him and accused of being a bridesmaid and non-trier, but I think he is putting everything into his races at the moment, and things have not gone his way."

Zorro's Dream is one of four winners from five to race out of the Melbourne winner Il Sogno, a half-sister to Listed Takeover Target winner Snitz, out of the hugely popular Tickle My.

A daughter of Perugino Tickle My won 11 races highlighted by the Group II MVRC Sunline Stakes, Group III VATC Eclipse Stakes and Group III VRC Jayco Caravans Stakes.

Il Sognohas has a 2yo filly by Impending, a yearling filly by Toronado (IRE), and was covered by Shamus Award last spring.

Toronado (IRE) returns to Swettenham Stud this spring, with his fee set at $49,500.
