Breeders seeking a proven Group I producing sire in Queensland this spring will find their choices limited with this stallion offering the potential of breeding a serious top line horse at a reasonable fee.
When Oaklands Stud’s Neville Stewart decided to take on former Cambridge Stud shuttler Power (GB), he could not have foreseen the son of Oasis Dream would be on an upward spiral siring two Group I winners in the Northern Hemisphere this year.
His four year-old gelding Helvic Dream won the Group I Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh, while classy three year-old colt Laws of Indices won the Group I Prix Jean Prat at Deauville putting Power well and truly in the international spotlight.
Power has put together an enviable record of 21 stakes-winners worldwide in total and was the leading sire of three year-old winners in New Zealand last season as seen in the table below.
His New Zealand bred progeny included five stakes-winners last season including the Hong Kong based Group II winner Mighty Giant.
With nearly 5% overall stakes-winners to runners, Power is a consistent sire of Black Type horses and has eight Group winners to go with his pair of Group I winners showing the quality of his offspring.
Representing the Green Desert sireline, Power is free of Danehill blood making him a suitable partner for a wide variety of mares looking for an upgrade in elite European class and speed.
Oaklands Stud has been home in the past to champion sire Lion Hunter and influential sire Iglesia who is best known as the sire of reigning Australian champion sire Written Tycoon, so Neville Stewart knows what it takes to make a successful stallion.
“They have to produce a good type and Power certainly does that,” said Stewart.
“He gets magnificent foals that furnish into outstanding yearlings, so you can see why he gets good racehorses.
“His progeny were well sought out and bought by some very good judges at Magic Millions and we have had good interest in him again this year on the back of what breeders are seeing from him here in Australia.”
Power will have his first Australian bred two year-olds running this season and stands Oaklands Stud at a fee of $13,200 alongside newcomer Prince Fawaz, a Group I winning son of Fastnet Rock, and also proven stakes sire Exosphere.
