Winning Rupert Winner The Latest Inglis Digital Success Story

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday July 27

The value to be found at Inglis Digital Sales was highlighted again at Taree on Tuesday by dominant two year-old winner Oblivion, the 12th winner for Newgate Farm young gun Winning Rupert.

Having his second start for new trainer John Sprague, Oblivion was a short priced favourite for the 1000m maiden and bolted in by nearly three lengths improving on his first up second at the same venue two weeks ago.

Oblivion was originally a $280,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Newgate Farm draft for James Harron Bloodstock, but after finishing fifth at Canberra and fourth at Gosford for Peter and Paul Snowden he was deemed not up to city standard.

Entered for the 2021 Inglis Digital March (Late) Sale he was advertised with the following comments.

Oblivion was an impressive winner of a trial at Gosford, then was unsuited to the soft track at Canberra on his race debut. Wet tracks forced a long time between runs prior to his next start, where he ran out of condition in the final stages.

He is quite a heavy and colty horse who should take enormous benefit from being gelded. Once gelded he has shown the requisite talent to go on and win races for his new owners.

John Sprague paid $22,500 for the colt and duly had him gelded earning an immediate return with a  second and win at his first two starts and the promise of a lot more to come.

Bred by SF Bloodstock and partners, Oblivion is the first winner for stakes-placed Mossbeat, whose yearling filly by Capitalist sold for $60,000 at Magic Millions this year to Lee Curtis.

Mossbeat has a weanling colt by Capitalist and is in foal to another young Newgate sire in Cosmic Force.

Winning Rupert has 12 winners on the board this season.

Oblivion is the 12th first crop winner for Winning Rupert, who stands this spring at a fee of $11,000.
