Second Stakes-Winner for Caravaggio

Tara Madgwick - Thursday July 22

Brilliant grey dual Group I winning sprinter Caravaggio (USA) shuttled for just one season to Coolmore Australia and that crop of foals are now rising two year-olds, the son of Scat Daddy making news overnight siring Agartha to win the Group III Silver Flash Stakes (7f) at Leopardstown.

Placed in her four previous starts, the Joseph O’Brien trained filly led all the way and kicked clear to break her maiden by more than two lengths under Declan McDonogh.

“We've always thought a lot of Agartha and she's been running very well,” said O’Brien.

“Today we said we'd let her bowl along and she loved it. Maybe we were restricting her a bit much. When we let her bowl along today she really got into a great rhythm and galloped.

“She's a good filly. I'd say she'll go further too. We'll probably head for the Debutante with her now. We've always had a very high opinion of her and she's done nothing but improve with each run.”

A homebred for the O’Brien family, Agartha is the first winner for stakes-winning Dylan Thomas mare Arya Tara, who comes from the family of multiple Group I winning champion colts Azamour and Australian based The Autumn Sun.

Caravaggio

She is the tenth winner and first Group winner for Caravaggio, who is also the sire of stakes-winner Dizzy Bizu and two more Black Type performers.

Caravaggio has had over 50 yearlings sell in Australasia for up to $220,000 this year and below are his top five sales. He has 32 entries for the 2022 Golden Slipper.
