Better Days Ahead for Deep Impact's Lost Impact

Mark Smith - Monday July 19

The Deep Impact (JPN) mare Lost Impact (JPN) has had a change of scenery since winning at her most recent start at Hawkesbury on March 16, but it has done her no harm.

Previously trained by Stephen O'Halloran, the Waratah Thoroughbreds colour-bearer made a winning debut for Lindsay Smith over 1800 metres at Casterton on Sunday.

Ridden by Declan Bates, Lost Impact (JPN) had two behind her in the early stages before receiving a lovely trail to be in a challenging position before the home turn. Coming widest in the straight, Lost Impact finished resolutely to defeat a stubborn Crooked Creek (Ustinov) by a half-neck with Simon Says (Rebel Raider )a further length back in third.

The 4yo daughter of Deep Impact (JPN) contested eight official barrier trials before making her career debut over 1500m at Hawkesbury in February. She finished second that day before disappointing at Gosford a fortnight later. She broke her maiden when leading at every call over 1800m at Hawkesbury on March 16.

A homebred for Paul Fudge's Waratah Thoroughbreds, Lost Impact (JPN) is the fourth named foal of her dam Siren's Song (IRE), purchased by Waratah Thoroughbreds for 300,000 guineas at Tattersalls November in 2011.

Siren's Song

The daughter of Azamour was a Listed stakes-winner in Ireland and is a half-sister to the Group II Great Voltigeur Stakes winner Centennial (Dalakahani).

Siren's Song (IRE) is out of the stakes-placed Lure mare Lurina, a half-sister to dual Group 1 winner Croco Rouge (Rainbow Quest), and the stakes-winner and blue hen Alidiva, the dam of Ali-Royal, Sleepytime, Taipan and the unraced Sometime the dam of Group 1 ATC Doncaster Handicap winner It's Somewhat.

Lost Impact's year older sister, Wild Impact (JPN), a winner at Newcastle and Kembla from 12 starts, was purchased by Yulong Investment for $95,000 at the 2021 Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale.

Reported as sold to Segenhoe Stud for $150,000 at the 2019 Inglis Chairman's Sale, and to Parsons Creek Trading Pty Ltd for $60,000 at the 2021 Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale, Siren's Song (IRE) has a yearling Caravaggio (USA) colt named Wind Of Heaven and was covered last spring by Yes Yes Yes.
