The $80,000 Grafton Guineas (1600m) on Wednesday drew a competitive field with a dominant victory going to promising gelding Tamilaide, a son of Galileo’s Cox Plate hero Adelaide (IRE).
Trained by Les Kelly at the Gold Coast, Tamilaide won his debut at Murwillumbah in January by five lengths and has not missed a place since, finishing second at his two most recent outings at Doomben.
Sent out favourite for this assignment, Tamilaide stormed home down the centre of the track to cruise clear and win by a length and a half running away.
Retaine
d to race by his breeders Fred and Desley Monsour, Tamilaide has the impressive record of three wins and three placings from six starts with prizemoney topping $100,000.
Tamilaide is a half-brother to stakes-placed Freddie Fox Trot and is the fourth winner from good producer Tamieka, a winning half-sister by Viscount to stakes-winner Kingsfield.
Tamieka produced a filly by Adelaide last spring and is now in foal to Saxon Warrior (Jpn).
Best known as the sire of Group I winning filly Funstar, Adelaide stands at the modest fee of $5,500 at Coolmore Australia this spring.
