Easing favourite Usmanov went straight to the front in Saturday’s Listed Grinders Coffee Lightning Hcp (1000m) at Eagle Farm, and the strapping son of Choisir simply ran his opponents off their legs.
Ridden by Baylee Nothdurft for Toby and Trent Edmonds, Usmanov carried his top-weight of 59kgs to a three-quarter length win over the confidently supported Boomtown Lass (Sprit Of Boom) with Doctor Zous (Zoustar) a length further back in third.
Coming off a win in the Bat Out Of Hell at the Gold Coast on May 8, Usmanov had earned his first stakes win when downing Boomtown Lass in the Listed Bribie Quality (1000m) at Eagle Farm back in December.
A $350,000 purchase by Aquis/Blue Sky BS (FBAA)/Toby Edmonds from the Segenhoe Stud draft at the 2017 Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Usmanov advances his record to nine wins, four seconds and two thirds from 24 starts with earnings of $460,000.
A half-brother to the Melbourne winner Ruuca (Rubick), Usmanov is out of the Redoute’s Choice mare Mining Tycoon.
A $375,000 Easter Yearling, Mining Tycoon is a half-sister to triple Group 1 winner Bentley Biscuit (Peintre Celebre) from the famed Denise’s Joy family.
Mining Tycoon has a 2yo Lonhro colt who was purchased by China Horse Club for $460,000 at the 2020 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale. Named Broken Hill he has been sent to Michael, Wayne and John Hawkes at Rosehill.
After missing in 2018, mining Tycoon foaled a Rubick colt last spring before visiting Dundeel.
Usmanov is one of 98 stakes-winners for Coolmore Stud’s pensioned Choisir.
