Tarzino Off The Mark

Mark Smith - Wednesday June 2

Mick Price had the honour of training the first winner for his VRC Derby hero Tarzino when Jungle Magnate made a winning career debut over 1400m at Sandown-Hillside on Wednesday.

Racing keenly in the run, one out and one back, under Mark Zahra, Jungle Mandate kept up a strong gallop to defeat the fast-finishing favourite Mac 'N' Cheese (Sebring) by a long-head with Back In The Day (More Than Ready) three-quarter of a length back in third.

Purchased by Mick Price Racing and Breeding for $75,000 out of the Westbury Stud draft at the NZB Karaka Yearling Sale, Jungle Magnate is the first foal of the Casino Prince mare The Love Of Money.

A half-sister to Outstanding View (Romarin), A Group 1 winner in Brazil, and the Listed Grafton Cup winner First Crush (Husson), The Love Of Money failed to place in her two career starts.

dam, Loving View (Choctaw Ridge), was the Champion 3YO Filly in Brazil in 2004-05 where her four ins included the Group 1 Cidade Jardim G.P. Barao de Piracicaba and Group 1 G.P. Diana.

Jungle Magnate a $75,000 Karaka yearling

The win of Jungle Magnate came a day after his half-brother by Telperion failed to make his $50,000 reserve at the Magic Millions National Yearling Sale.

Victoria Derby and Rosehill Guineas winner Tarzino has only had two runners in Australia and one in New Zealand to date.

The son of Tavistock stands at Wesbury Stud in 2021 at a fee of $12,000.
