Century of Winners for Nicconi

Tara Madgwick - Sunday May 30

With five winners around Australia on Saturday, Widden Stud Victoria’s Nicconi quietly passed the milestone of 100 winners for the season over the weekend and mong those winners was the talented Gary Portelli trained filly Nicci’s Fling.

Nicci's Fling was a determined winner at Randwick - image Steve Hart.

Fourth in a Group III event at Randwick over the carnival and second to Midland at her last start in the $300,000 Inglis 3YO Guineas, Nicci’s Fling was overdue for a win and thrilled her big team of owners with a tenacious long head win the Benchmark 78 event over 1400m.

Nicci’s Fling was a $50,000 Inglis Classic purchase from the Twin Hills Stud draft for Gold Edge Syndications Pty Ltd and has three wins and five placings from 14 starts with prizemoney in excess of $220,000.

A half-sister to stakes-placed Midnight Minx she was bred by Ollie Tait is the best of six winners from Midnight Fling, an unraced Danehill (USA) daughter of Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes winner Midnight Fever.

Best known as the sire of Australian Horse of the Year and Champion Sprinter Nature Strip, Nicconi consistently delivers winners all over the country and this season has sired the winners of over $8million in prizemoney with five stakes-winners.

Nicconi will stand in Victoria this spring.

He stands at Widden Stud Victoria for the first time this spring at a fee of $27,500.
