Second Stakes-Winner for Extreme Choice

Tara Madgwick - Saturday May 15

The Listed Woodlands Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill on Saturday produced a thrilling finish with Extreme Choice’s talented daughter Xtremetime prevailing to win by a short head over I Am Invincible filly Ashema with Shihonka in third place giving her sire Capitalist yet another stakes horse.

Sporting the Prime Thoroughbreds colours, the John Thompson trained Xtremetime won her maiden at her second start at Canterbury last month and upped the ante with this performance.

Ridden quietly from a wide gate by Brenton Avdulla, she let down with a big finish to make it two wins from three starts with prizemoney topping $130,000.

"I think she's a promising filly," John Thompson said.

"I said that to Brenton (Avdulla) before he rode her at Canterbury and she got the job done there. She was a little bit green in front but today she showed that she can come from behind as well from a wide draw.

"I think she's got a very bright future.

"I will have a talk to the owners, I never make a decision on race day, but I would give her a freshen up and bring her back for the three-year-old fillies series in the spring."

A $160,000 Magic Millions purchase for Prime Thoroughbreds from the Newgate Farm draft, Xtremetime was bred by SF Bloodstock and is a half-sister to Group I placed US based colt Caracaro, who was one of the favourites for last year’s Kentucky Derby before going amiss just before the race.

She is the second winner from placed War Front mare Peace Time (USA), a daughter of Group II Hollywood Oaks winner Santa Catarina.

Newgate Farm sold the yearling filly by Hellbent from Peace Time for $60,000 at Magic Millions to Triple Crown Syndications and she has a More Than Ready (USA) filly to follow.

Xtremetime is the second stakes-winner for Newgate Farm’s Extreme Choice , whose other stakes-winner is Golden Slipper winner Stay Inside.

Extreme Choice

Extreme Choice has some well documented fertility issues and is listed at a private fee for this spring.
