Fairhill Farm Cheer Home Sahra

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday May 5

Mike and Debbie O’Donnell have their hands full at Riverside Stables with a big draft of 29 weanlings to be offered at the Inglis Australian Weanling Sale on Thursday, but they no doubt spared a minute to cheer home their filly Sahra, who saluted at Canterbury in the Fairhill Farm colours.

A three year-old filly by Hinchinbrook prepared by Peter and Paul Snowden, Sahra was backed into favouritism for the Benchmark 72  event over 1250m and made light work of the heavy ground to power home and win by a short neck.

She was given a patient ride by Rachel King, who was full of praise for Sahra.

“She’s always been a nice filly, but has really grown and developed this preparation,” King said.

“She’s the full package now and they will have a lot of fun with her.”

With three wins and four placings from nine starts, Sahra has already won over $124,000 and her liking for wet tracks will stand her in good stead over the winter months.

Pictured as a yearling, Sahra was bred by Mike O'Donnell and retained to race.

Offered by Fairhill Farm at Inglis Classic, Sahra was passed in shy of her $150,000 and retained to race with happy results and the promise of more wins to come.

She is a half-sister to Group III placed Margham, the dam of stakes-winner Mohave, and is the seventh winner from eight foals to race from stakes-placed import Desert End (USA).
