Vinery Stud’s Star Turn has more than made his mark this season in a stellar grouping of first season sires and featured at Eagle Farm on Saturday when his talented fillies Miss Hipstar and Stellar Magic filled the quinella in the Listed BRC Dalrello Stakes (1000m).
Trained by Kelly Schweida, Miss Hipstar was the first winner for Star Turn when she scored on debut at Doomben last November and now she is his first stakes-winner after taking out this Black Type contest.
Sent to the paddock after finishing midfield in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic, Miss Hipstar won a recent trial and was ready for this assignment, albeit she’ll take improvement from the run.
Ridden by regular partner Larry Cassidy, she was strong on the line beating Stellar Magic by half a length with I Am Invincible filly Ashema a close third.
“She dug really deep which is good,” said Kelly Schweida.
“Larry (Cassidy) has ridden a lot of good horses and he’s excited about her.
“She’s a sweetheart of a horse. She settled well today so we think she can get further.”
Purchased by her trainer for $150,000 out of the Vinery Stud draft at the 2020 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Miss Hipstar has won three of five starts earning over $170,000 in prizemoney.
Bred by Steve McCann’s Encompass International and foaled and raised at Vinery, Miss Hipstar is a half-sister to the Group II ATC Sweet Embrace Stakes runner-up Still Single out of the Not a Single Doubt’s smart juvenile stakes-winner Single Style.
Single Style has a yearling filly by More Than Ready (USA) that was sold by Vinery at the 2021 Magic Millions for $425,000 to Kelly Schweida Racing.
Single Style has a weanling filly by Zoustar and is in foal to Vinery’s exciting young sire Exceedance.
Miss Hipstar is the best of eight winners for Star Turn, who has four stakes horses to his credit and stands this spring at a fee of $16,500.
