Second Stakes Win for Frosted Filly Cloudy

Mark Smith - Saturday April 24

The winners continue to flow for Darley Stud's exciting first season sire Frosted (USA) as his Listed Dequetteville Stakes-winning daughter Cloudy added Saturday's Group III Breeders' Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville to her record.

Ridden by Todd panel, Cloudy held the challenge of Headwater's talented son Karacasu by a long-head with Toronado (IRE) filly Isles Of Avalon one and a quarter lengths back in third.

A homebred for Godolphin, Cloudy advances her record to three wins and a third from seven starts with earnings of $175,625.

d behind Frosted's top-class son Ingratiating in the Listed  Maribyrnong Trial Stakes (1000m) at Flemington when on debut last October, Cloudy is the best of three winners from five to race out of the Listed VRC Ottawa Stakes winner Applegate (Exceed And Excel).

A half-sister to the Group III ATC Summer Cup winner Yulalona (Dubai Destination), Applegate was sold by Godolphin last year at the National Broodmare Sale after producing a colt by Ribchester, which has been named Escutcheon.

Carrying a filly by Impending, Applegate was bought by Andrew Williams Bloodstock for $60,000. She was covered by So You Think last spring and exported to New Zealand.

Cloudy is one of four stakes-winners for Frosted (USA) worldwide and his second in Australia.

The son of Tapit has five winners from 11 starters to date with Frost Flowers and Translation also earning black-type when placing in the Group III Blue Diamond Preview and Listed Dequetteville Stakes, respectively.
